There are several ways to volunteer for our agency.

Our agency has two types of volunteers, the type that deals directly with clients, which are called Direct Service Volunteers (DSVs) and Non Direct Service Volunteers (NDSVs). The lists below represent the requirements and scope of each of these volunteer types.

volunteerDirect Service Volunteers (DSV)

  • Provide services directly to our clients.
  • Required to pass three different kinds of background checks. These background checks are provided to volunteers at no cost.
    1. A criminal background check
    2. An adult maltreatment check
    3. Child maltreatment check

DSVs are required to have an initial volunteer training prior to providing direct services to clients. This training covers the following:

  • The dynamics of domestic violence
  • The cycle of violence
  • An overview of our agency and its services
  • Training in how to do direct advocacy with victims
  • Those who plan on being in regular contact with clients may also be required to take additional trainings provided online at no cost.

DSVs with professional licenses can provide services free or at reduced cost in the following areas:

  • Counseling/therapy
  • Nutrition
  • Legal advice/assistance
  • Medical fields

Other services provided by DSVs include:

  • Transportation
  • Child care
  • Crisis counseling/support
  • Teach educational classes and facilitate groups
  • Business/budgeting
  • Trauma informed yoga instruction
